Brenda Elaine McIntyre

Tribute

Brenda Elaine Thames McIntyre was born on December 4, 1954, to the late Theola Thames Phillips and Willie Jacobs in Wilmington, North Carolina.  She was the second of five children.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bobby McIntyre, and her sister Pamela Thames.

Brenda was a gentle soul with a generous spirit who believed in family.  She was a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend.  Brenda spent her earlier years in Wilmington, NC, and attended New Hanover County public schools.  She graduated from New Hanover High School in the Class of 1974.

In the early 1980s, Brenda relocated to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  On May 30, 1987, she married Bobby McIntyre and to this union was born a son, Bobby Timothy McIntyre.  She was employed in the Clerks Department as a supervisor at the Oklahoma City Courthouse until her retirement.  She was a survivor of the Oklahoma Bombing of 1995.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Brenda received her wings peacefully in the comfort of her home. She was a fighter who fought a good fight not only as a survivor of the Oklahoma bombing but also her struggles with sickle cell.  Brenda was a true example of strength and perseverance.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Timothy McIntyre, Sr. (Delecia Coleman); three grandchildren, Bobby, Jr., McKenzie, and Kyrie; one sister, Sherry Thames-Morris of Brooklyn, NY; three brothers, James, “Jay” Thames (Rugena) and Anthony “Drag” Thames both of Wilmington, NC, and Ronald Thames of Florissant, MO; two brothers-in-law, Achilles Johnson (Sarah) and Demetrius Johnson (Renee) of Wilmington, NC; two aunts, Carmelita Thames of Imperial, CA, and Mary Lee Jacobs of Chattanooga, TN; one great aunt, Frances Felder of Johnsonville, SC; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.


Her Celebration of Life service will take place at 2:00pm, Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Chapel at Resthaven. Services will be live-streamed for those who wish to attend virtually. Please use the link below to access the live-stream.
